What were your thoughts when you read this question? I know what mine were when I first read an article about a healthy home. I thought what are they talking about – a healthy home? Of course, I thought the article was referring to my home being clean, but as I read the article, I became concerned. I did not realize that homes have more chemicals in them than a chemistry lab - that more children under the age of four die from accidental poisonings in the home than other means of accidental deaths.
The article further stated that products I was using every day in my home had - with all probability - known carcinogens and toxins in them. Things like toothpaste, shampoos, window cleaners, mouthwashes and the list went on.
I then realized what a healthy home meant! Getting rid of toxic and carcinogenic products I was using everyday and replacing them with safer products.
I just wish I had come across this article when my son was a baby! I remember when my son was smaller and what I did to keep him “safe”. Yes, I kept the “bad” stuff in a cabinet that had a safety latch on it. However, I did not know that the shampoo I was washing his hair with could cause problems with his health, or that the toothpaste he was using had sugar in it or that it possibly contained formaldehyde. He is now 35 years old. I pray that my lack of knowledge about the chemicals I unknowingly exposed to him when he was a child will have no adverse affect on his health later on in his life. I am so thankful that I found this article! At least now, I can share what I have learned with others and hopefully this knowledge will help someone else.
If you are concerned about the products you are bringing into your home and would like to read more about toxic dangers in products, go to the home page on this website. To find out the steps to a healthier home fill out the information on the contact us page.
